About BenBen was born in Lexington, Kentucky and spent his younger years as a member of the Boy Scouts learning the excitement and wonder of exploration. He spent many summer weekends at a lake house where he had his own boat and went out fishing by himself for hours. He was an avid reader who sometimes would use his lunch money to buy books. The Hardy Boys and Tom Swift were his favorites.
In his adult years he continued to explore. He lived and traveled in Scotland while in the Navy. His travels included trekking across Tibet, climbing on Mt. Everest, and backpacking in the Dark Canyon of Utah and on the Appalachian Trail. He lived for a month in Vienna, Austria, and traveled by train throughout Europe. He went to Ixchiguan, Guatemala to build houses with Habitat for Humanity.
